Covid Safety at Zia Family Focus Center

ZFFC and APS follow COVID-safe practices to help keep students and employees healthy and at work. The COVID-19 virus spreads easily, and symptoms can range from mild to severe, which is why Albuquerque Public Schools, under the guidance of the New Mexico health and education departments, has outlined COVID-safe practices for the 2022-2023 school year. Symptomatic individuals (students and employees) regardless of vaccination status should isolate at home for 5 days from the onset of symptoms and be 24 hours fever-free without fever-reducing medication and with improved symptoms upon returning to school/work.  It is recommended a COVID-19 test be taken.  At-home rapid antigen COVID-19 tests should be provided by the school/department (if circumstances allow).  Your best sources of information are the APS website and your child's school. If you have questions or concerns, contact your child’s school .

If your child becomes ill during class we will bring them to a comfortable space where they will be separated from teachers and other students. We will notify you so you may pick up your child as soon as possible.

GUIDELINES

Students Who Are Sick

  • Students who are sick should stay home. Please let the school know they will be absent.

  • If students are sick or have a fever, it is recommended that they take a COVID test, even if they are vaccinated.

Students Who Test Positive

  • Students who test positive need to stay home for at least five days.  They can return to school after five days and are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication and symptoms are improving.

  • Notify the school as soon as they test positive.

  • Students returning to school after five days must wear a mask for an additional five days.

Students Who Test Negative

  • Families are encouraged to confer with the school nurse when a student is sick.  Students who exhibit symptoms may return to school after they:

    - Are cleared by the school nurse for return and are 24 hours fever-free without fever-reducing medication and with improved symptoms, and
    - Test negative on two at-home rapid antigen tests, taken 24-48 hours apart, or test negative on one PCR test provided by health care professionals or testing sites. Families will be asked to ensure test results.

Students Who Were In Close Contact

  • Students, if symptom-free, who were in close contact with someone who tested positive can go to school and participate in school-related activities regardless of vaccination status.
